Jealous Thai soldier arrested for strangling girlfriend and dumping body in pond behind his house
A jealous Thai soldier was arrested after allegedly strangling his girlfriend and dumping her body in a pond behind his house.
Sergeant Major Surin Pramnoi, 38, had an argument with lover Wanida Uamthet, 40, after he suspected her of cheating on him with other men in Phetchaburi province, southern Thailand.
The furious soldier reportedly forced the woman inside her car and strangled her to death on May 26.
He is then said to have taken his dead girlfriend home and tied her body with bricks before dumping it in a pond so she would stay on the bottom of the water.
Phetchaburi Provincial Police Commander Police Major General Uthai Kawindechathorn said: ‘Our suspect is a soldier that undergoes special combat training at a military camp in Kaen Krachan district. He will be charged with murder, hiding and destroying evidence, and theft.'
The missing girlfriend's family was worried when she failed to answer their calls and missed classes as she was working as a teacher.
Her father Vathee Uamthet went to the police to report his daughter missing on June 1. Officers began a search and found her car parked outside a house in Tha Yang district.
The house owner claimed that he bought the pickup truck from a soldier who turned out to be the missing woman's boyfriend.
Officers took the soldier for questioning and he reportedly admitted to killing the woman on June 9. His property was searched while divers went to the pond with the soldier until the body was found.
The dead teacher's body had several slit marks across her arms, legs, and abdomen, while her body was tied with bricks.
A crime reenactment, a common feature in Thai police investigation, was also done the next day on June 10. The devastated family watched in disbelief as the soldier showed how he gruesomely killed his lover for cheating on him.
Police Major General Uthai added: ‘The suspect will be transferred to Kaeng Krachan Police Station to be held in custody before the case goes to the court.'
