'Elephant's daughter' plus-size beauty pageant proves a hit in northern Thailand
This amusing beauty pageant for plus-size women proved a hit in northern Thailand.
The inclusive contest, affectionally called 'Thida Chang' or elephant's daughter in Thai, was held in Nakhon Ratchasima province on June 12, and featured 36 participants from across the country.
It had the theme 'Love elephants, Love Thailand, Love the world,' and was open to all women, including transgender, who weighed more than 80 kilograms.
Footage shows the big beautiful women, also called BBWs, strutting on the stage in their flowing gowns as the audience cheered them on.
Their overflowing confidence wowed the crowd and the judges, but two lucky winners stood out from the others.
One of them was Chotika Dokkaewklang, 24, who wore a pretty pink dress as she took the platform. At 105 kilograms, she was crowned 'Elephant Daughter of Thailand 2022'.
Meanwhile, the candidate who won the title of 'Elephant Queen of Thailand 2022' was transgender Nerunchara Udomkaewkanjana, 32, who donned a bright yellow dress with blue stripes.
The pageant was held to promote tourism in Nakhon Ratchasima, and to draw attention to issues such as wildlife conservation, climate change, and the poor treatment of some of Thailand's elephants.
