An overloaded hanging bridge collapsed, injuring three people in the Philippines.

The cable-stayed bridge in Laua-an town, Antique province gave out while the pedestrians were crossing it on June 15. A cement post at the bridge's approach allegedly toppled over, sending the locals plummeting seven metres down on the riverbank below.

Footage shows the townsfolk pulling out a woman whose leg was trapped under the wreckage of metal and concrete.

Officers named the injured as Michael Villabert, Arlene Bangcaya, and Allen Joy Necor.

Michael sustained injuries on his face and head. Arlene fractured her left thigh, while Allen had wounds on her lips and eyebrow. They have all been taken to the hospital for treatment, with Michael reportedly needing to undergo surgery, local media said.

He is an employee, while Arlene and Allen are interns of the country's Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). They were visiting the province to attend the launch of a project in the region.

Antique Trade and Industry development specialist Glen Fernando said: 'Villabert and the two (trainees) were crossing the hanging bridge ahead of (DTI Provincial) Director Dinda Tamayo when the Latazon hanging bridge gave way that caused the accident.'

Local disaster management chief Broderick Train said the bridge allegedly collapsed due to overloading.
