A Thai pop singer boasted she spent £9.2 MILLION on tickets for Man Utd and Liverpool friendly in Bangkok - before trying to sell them to locals.

Pimradaporn Benjawattanapat, known by her nickname or Pimrypie spent 400 million THB (9.2 MILLION GBP) on the match tickets to re-sell them to followers on her online platform.

Pimrypie, 31, went live on her Facebook Page on June 23 night selling the tickets that have already sold out on the official website Thai Ticket Major.

In her live video, Pimrypie flashed the ticket bundle on the screen where each ticket has her name ‘Pimrypie' printed in Thai on.

The super-tout also said on video that she had bought 10,000 tickets which were retailing at 20,000 THB (458 GBP) and 10,000 tickets of 15,000 THB (343 GBP) together worth 350 million THB (around 8 milllion GBP).

The tickets sold on her platform are also priced around 30 per cent lower than the official website, meaning that she is selling at a loss.

‘I paid people to get the tickets, that's why it sold out on the first day. I'm also giving out training session tickets for the Manchester United-Liverpool close-up and 2000 tickets for 'Jackson Wang' on July 11, 2022 for free.'

‘The 2,000 training session tickets will be distributed to those who transfer the payment first.'

The female star claimed that there will be lucky draws for her customers to win a ticket to have a meal with Jackson Wang and a meal with Manchester United and Liverpool along with other souvenirs.

Pimrypie said she had spent another 50 million THB (around 1.2 million GBP) on the training session tickets, taking her total bill to around 400 million baht in cash on the tickets.

Tickets for the lucrative summer tour exhibition match were sold for between 5,000 Baht (114 GBP) and 25,000 Baht (572 GBP) at the stadium in Bangkok - higher than last year's Champions League final.

In contrast, the average minimum wage across the semi-developed country is just 324 Baht (7.42 GBP) a day.

Supporters of the two teams - that have both struggled with poor performances in the recent season and failed to achieve any meaningful success - criticised the ticket prices.

The Covid-19 pandemic had temporarily stopped pre-season friendlies but with travel restrictions now eased, many Premier League teams will be embarking on the money-spinning overseas trips.

Tours to Southeast Asia and the Far East have been particularly lucrative in recent years as both sides have large fan bases in the tropical regions, where domestic leagues are still underdeveloped.

The friendly between the two teams at the Rajamangala National Stadium on July 12 has been dubbed the ‘Red War' by promoters. They hope to recreate the feel of a Premier League clash.

Former United striker Andy Cole said: ‘I'm not sure it will be played like a pre-season friendly. It will be the same players as you see now with a few additions if transfer deals happen.'

Organizer Vinij Lertratanachai, head of the Fresh Air Festival, said the stadium would be improved to meet the clubs' standards.
