An alert police officer and commuters saved a woman's life by pulling her to safety, after she slipped and got dragged a few metres, while boarding a moving train in northern India's Uttar Pradesh.

The incident took place at the Virangana Laxmibai Railway Station, commonly known as the Jhansi Railway Station, located in the eponymous district of the state, on June 24.

Visuals showed the woman and a man jogging to catch a moving train. The woman loses balance, causing her to be dragged. The man and a few others, including a policeman, quickly rushed to her aid and pulled her to safety.

Reports said that the woman was pregnant, thus not one, but two lives were saved by the alert people.

The policeman has been identified as Railway Protection Force (RPF) Constable Narpal Singh, who took part in the rescue at platform number one. The woman was trying to board the 11124 Barauni-Gwalior Mail.

Despite repeated warnings by law enforcement to not board or alight from moving trains, passengers keep on ignoring pleas. These, at times, turn fatal.
