Children were seen swimming amongst islands of litter floating on the sea's surface off the coast of Padang, Indonesia.

According to the filmer, litter drifts down to the fishing port from the Batang Arau River.

A 2019 study found Indonesia to be the second largest contributor to marine plastic pollution behind China.

The garbage that has piled up in this port is shipped from areas along the Batang Arau River, and has never been cleaned up for a long time.

This plastic waste and household waste will increase if the city of Padang is hit by rain and floods. The result, fishing boats returning from the sea, had to lean between piles of garbage.

In fact, fishermen's wives have to walk among the garbage, when they meet the fish that their husbands brought. The fishermen's children often swim among the piles of plastic waste, even though it can cause skin diseases.

Muara Padang Harbor itself is an old port, which is in the center of Padang City and has become a tourist area.
