A photographer has given his followers a terrifying look inside the jaws of a great white shark.

Euan Rannachan, who regularly shares mesmerising sealife shots with his 77,200 followers on Instagram (@euanart), filmed the video in the waters surrounding Guadalupe Island, Mexico.

He later uploaded the clip to YouTube but also shared a close-up of the shark's gaping mouth on Instagram, with its razor-sharp teeth gleaming.

"This shark had been coming in and out all day, bossing all the other sharks around and not letting any of the others go for the bait," Euan said.

“Towards the end of the day, he finally decided that he wanted a snack and started getting more aggressive with the bait himself."

Scary close-ups are Euan's "favourite" kind of photos to take.

He said: “I believe we saw 12 brand new sharks that trip.

“I loved it. One of my favourite types of photos to get when shooting great white sharks is the shot through the gills.

"This clip has that and also a great view of the rows of teeth as he went past."

In the video clip, which has nearly 7,000 views, the great white can be seen lunging for the bait.

As the camera moves closer, viewers can see the gaps between the animal's gills and the vast expanse of its impressive jaws.

The shark's black eyes roll past the camera and viewers get close enough to see the water rolling over the gills.

"What an unpleasant place," wrote one user who didn't seem too impressed by the shark-infested waters.

Euan, who loves the prehistoric creatures, leads his own shark dives as part of Be A Shark Adventure Travel, where members of the public can learn more about these amazing fish.

Despite their reputation as apex predators, great whites are considered a vulnerable species due to hunting and threats to their habitat.
