A Hindu shopkeeper was murdered by two muslim men in Udaipur city of Rajasthan on Tuesday. The Udaipur murder was recorded on camera and its video has gone viral on social media. The shopkeeper is believed to have been killed over a social media post supporting BJP leader Nupur Sharma.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nupur Sharma was recently in the news for her controversial statements about Prophet Muhammad.

Following the incident, Hindu organisations shut down markets as protests erupted across Udaipur. The demonstrators took to the streets to protest against the violent act. Traders and locals demanded that the accused be arrested.

The police have said that they have identified the alleged murderers and are searching for them. Manoj Kumar, Superintendent of Police of Udaipur said, "A heinous murder has been committed and a thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident. Few accused have been identified. Police teams have been constituted to locate the accused. We will take action on the video of men claiming to have committed the act."

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has condemned the incident and appealed to people to maintain peace while assuring strict punishment for those involved in the murder. "I condemn the heinous murder of youth in Udaipur. Strict action will be taken against all the criminals involved in this incident and the police will go to the bottom of the crime. I appeal to all parties to maintain peace. There's tense atmosphere in the nation today. Why don't Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah address the nation? There is tension among people. PM Modi should address the public and say that such violence won't be tolerated & appeal for peace", CM Gehlot said.
