A leopard was rescued after getting trapped inside a school bathroom in Mumbai's Bimbisar Nagar on June 29.

A security guard had spotted the leopard jump over the school's gate at around 12:30 am and alerted the local forest department.

The big cat was later found in a bathroom and was unable to escape.

Forest department officials shut all exit points and used nets to prevent the leopard's escape before tranquilising it.

Officials from the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), Mumbai forest department and Wildlife Welfare Association were involved in the rescue operation, which was about three hours long.

The leopard was taken to SGNP where medical tests will be conducted. Doctors would also check if there's a microchip in its body which would indicate if it had been rescued earlier.

The animal would then reportedly be kept in solitary confinement under observation. If fit, it will be released into the wild.
