Hundreds gathered in Madrid's Lavapiés neighbourhood to protest against the NATO summit on June 29.
Protesters were met with a heavy police presence and officers were seen attempting to control the demonstration.

Before the arrival of the President of the United States Joe Biden and the NATO summit, different anti-fascist groups in Madrid have chosen two specific points in the Lavapiés neighborhood to demonstrate against the NATO summit and its "militarist policies": Plaza de Tirso de Molina and the Plaza de Lavapiés. None of the protests has been communicated to the Government Delegation and, therefore, none has the corresponding authorization. However, this is not an impediment for organizations such as the Madrid Antirepressive Movement, promoter of one of the calls.
The information brigade of the National Police managed to prevent these same allegedly radical groups from "bursting" the only authorized demonstration that has taken place in Madrid against the NATO summit last Sunday. In the same way, the Security Forces and Bodies will try to prevent these concentrations from being held, to avoid possible disturbances in public order. Thus, massive searches are planned in the surroundings of the two squares, in addition to a high police presence to cause a deterrent effect among the protesters.
One possibility that the Police wants to avoid at all costs is that the participants of these concentrations do not manage to join, a not insignificant possibility due to the proximity between the two points, about 650 meters from each other. To this is added that both protests are called at the same time, at eight in the afternoon. In fact, close sources assure that the recommendation is to avoid these areas to avoid risks.
police sources, the arrival of radicals from Greece, Italy and Portugal is expected. These specific profiles are the ones that most concern those responsible for security due to the experience they may have in street confrontations with agents. On the other hand, the focus has been placed on the Antirepressive Movement of Madrid, an "extreme left" organization and organizer of the concentration in Plaza Tirso de Molina. For this group, the NATO summit is a "meeting of genocides", which is why they want to express their rejection of the holding of the summit in Madrid and the establishment of "warmongering measures".
