A child was rescued after spending eight hours trapped in a narrow borewell in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh.

The 5-year-old boy named Dipendra Yadav fell down the 30-foot-deep well on his father's farm at around 2 am on June 29.

A rescue team set up a computer screen so they could monitor the boy's movements. He was also given oxygen via a pipe.

A parallel tunnel was dug up and at 10 am the boy was successfully rescued.

The borewell had a depth of 150 feet but fortunately, Yadav only fell 30 feet.

The 5-year-old was taken to hospital for a check-up.

A child was pulled out alive after falling 30-feet deep into an open borewell in central India's Madhya Pradesh.

The incident happened at the Narayanpura village in Chhatarpur district on Wednesday, June 29.

Visuals showed a computer screen where the boy's movements inside the borewell, was being monitored. He was given oxygen through a pipe. The five-year old, identified as Dipendra Yadav fell into the borewell, which was in his father's farm at around 2:00 pm. A huge crowd had gathered at the spot.

Also with the threat looming, people were seen holding a covering over the borewell to stop water from entering it, which would have adversely affected the rescue operation. The local administration, two army officers with as many juniors and 23 jawans alongside the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams took part in the rescue.

A parallel tunnel was dug up, whose depth was 28 feet from where the rescuers were able to pull out the child, reportedly at around 10:00 pm. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

It was learnt that the borewell had a depth of 150 feet and fortunately, the child couldn't make it past 30 feet. The boy was seen being taken to the hospital, where he looked to be fine. There have been advisories issued by the administration asking people to cover up open borewells and it was said that action would be taken against those who didn't follow the directives.
