A hero driver stopped to rescue a pet dog drowning in an abandoned well.

Weeraphon Raksamerwong was travelling across a muddy dirt road when he saw locals calling for help in Udon Thani province, Thailand on June 28.

He was told that the dog was trapped in a 9ft-deep well that was soaked with rainwater. The kind driver stopped to check and went to the local rescuer's office to fetch volunteers who would help him save the pooch.

The animal lover said: 'There was a man who called for help while I was driving so I stopped. He told me about the dog.

‘The soil was slippery and the well was too deep so I thought I'd have to contact the professionals to assist us.'

Volunteers tied a noose and caught the dog with it before pulling him up to safety.

The dog was taken to a nearby home where he was allowed to rest and fed. The pooch was unhurt and rescuers have contacted the dog's owner for information.
