Protesters conronted Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha during an economic event in northern Thailand.

The crowd wrote their grievances on roads and signs in front of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) Expo in Chiang Mai province on June 29 where the leader was a guest of honour.

They condemned Chan-o-cha for his alleged failure to organise the country during the pandemic and called for elections to replace the leader.

The protesters will gather again in Saraphi district to hold a demonstration at another event that the Prime Minister is expected to attend.

The FTI Expo will hold trade exhibitions, seminars, and business activities from June 29 to July 3.

Growing unrest at the Thai prime minister - a career soldier who seized power with a coup in 2014 - along with anger at the military government has lead to regular protests in recent years.
