This is the heartwarming moment a stray dog paddled across a fast-flowing river to meet his canine friend.

The brave pooch was seen battling through the strong currents of the Zawgyi river in Shan State, Myanmar, on June 18, swimming steadily towards land as its friend waited near the river bank.

It then trotted towards the smaller dog to give an excited greeting before running off to play.

Onlooker Su filmed the adorable encounter while visiting Elephant's Head mountain next to the river.

She said: 'I'm so jealous of the dog. It has a partner so loyal they will risk their life crossing a river just to see them.'

The river was swollen and flowing fast due to recent heavy rain in Myanmar, which is at the start of its annual tropical rainy season.

The conditions made the crossing even more perilous for the determined pooch.
