Fatal end for dog who tries to intimidate resting tiger at national park in northern India
As the old English adage goes- Curiosity killed the cat- only this time, it was a dog, who tried to intimidate a resting dog and paid for it with its life, in northern India's Rajasthan.
The incident took place at the Ranthambore National Park (RNP) in Sawai Madhopur district on June 29.
Visuals showed the feline lying down and relaxing when a stray dog gets too close and starts to bark. Seeing the pooch standing nearby, the tiger gets up and grabs it by the dog's neck and pins it to the ground.
The tiger's power was too much for the dog to put up a fight, as it succumbed at the spot.
Speaking to Newslions, filmer Lakhan Rana, who works as a safari driver, said the tiger acted in self defence.
"The dog tried to intimidate the tiger, who was resting. If you disturb a tiger, it will retaliate, that is the law of nature," he said.
Rana said that he has been working at the forest for 18 years and hasn't come across a more clever tiger than T-120.
He said that the tiger is named Charger and locally known as Ganesh and Bhagdur.
"He generally roams across Zone 2, 3 and 4 of the forest. Bhagdur mainly stays in Zone 3, where he covers 10 kilometres. He covers 1.5 kilometres in Zone 2 and around 3-4 kilometers in Zone 4," Rana added.
The tiger has already killed a hyena, a leopard, a sloth bear, before ending the dog's life.
With strays coming close to the tiger, environmentalists are worried that the wild animal would be infected with the Canine Distemper Virus (CDV).
