Residents fled as a giant rock weighing 100 tonnes tumbled down a mountain in southern China.

Video filmed in the city of Guilin in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on July 3 shows residents running away quickly as a giant rock rolls down a mountain beside them.

Three cars parked under the mountain were crushed by the rock.

Two children were reportedly in the backseat of a black car when their mother went grocery shopping at a nearby market. Since the back of the car was not crushed, the children were not injured.

Firefighters later freed the children from the car.

An employee from the market said to Guangxi TV that the incident may have been caused by continuous rainfall.

因连日降雨，7月3日下午5时许，桂林市临桂区一农贸市场旁发生一起山体落石事故，导致多辆汽车被砸中。巨石滚落过程中，路上有行人发现，及时躲开。
多段拍摄于桂林市临桂区金山市场的视频显示，有山石从山上滚落，压在停在下方的汽车上，其中一辆黑色汽车和银色汽车被压扁，周围车辆也受到波及。
金山市场一名商户李先生介绍，在市场停车场附近山上有一块约百吨的巨石落下，将停车场几辆车压住，当时有两个孩子刚好在黑色车子后方，落石没有将后方空间完全压扁，孩子才没有事情。李先生说，落石事故发生前下了一天的雨，事发时也还在下雨。
7月4日上午，金山市场管理方工作人员表示，昨日下午5时10分左右，确有落石砸到车辆，但人没有事，一共伤到了3辆车。当时一辆车内有孩子，妈妈去买菜了。恰好汽车被落石压住，后来消防人员前来把孩子救出。该工作人员称，当时落石很快就从山上滚落下来，造成落石的原因可能与最近雨水较多有关，现在事发地已经拉了围栏，“后续也会和应急、消防等部门协商，看还需采取哪些安全措施。”
