This is the moment a massive tornado destroyed 15 houses in the Philippines.

Footage shows the extreme weather phenomenon extending from the dark clouds above before tearing through structures in Iloilo province, on June 24.

Debris could be seen floating in the air as it blitzed through the properties. The twister lasted for almost 30 minutes and left 15 houses badly damaged.

No one was reported hurt as terrified residents fled their homes before it reached the village.

A disaster risk reduction agency officer said: ‘The tornado struck the houses around afternoon. We are working with the social welfare department and Philippine Red Cross to help the affected families.'

The displaced families were given food packs and temporary shelters in the village hall while local officials prepare financial assistance to aid in repairing their houses.

A tornado is a powerful rotating column of air extending from a thunderstorm to the ground. They form when warm air rises through colder air, which can create spinning updrafts when winds move at different speeds and directions.
