Drug lab-themed cannabis cafe opens in Thailand
This cannabis lab-themed cafe opened after the drug was decriminalised in Thailand.
The 'Hybrid Cafe' houses potted marijuana plants kept inside glass boxes in Chiang Mai province.
Its unique interior and lighting give out a drug lab vibe while customers enjoy its cannabis-infused menu.
The cafe offers herbal juices made with a concoction of different varieties of cannabis oil and extract.
Cafe owner Pakpoom Thawilprawat said: ‘Our team had studied the pros and cons of cannabis. We have experience in cannabis housing and the industry in general so we would like to share how to use this in a useful way to our community.'
Aside from their bottled herbal juices, the shop also offers help to locals and tourists who are interested in using cannabis as a home remedy.
Under the change in legislature, which came into effect last month, anyone can by marijuana products and take them home to smoke. Growing cannabis plants at home and selling the drug is also allowed.
Ministers hope the move will boost the country's economy through marijuana's links to agriculture, medicine and tourism.
However, since marijuana's decriminalisation, a number of people have been admitted to hospital after using the drug and opponents to the move claim it could cause long-term mental health problems among people who use it regularly.
Although recreational use of cannabis or hemp is no longer illegal in Thailand, users can be fined up to 25,000 THB or jailed for up to three months for public nuisance offences connected to using it (576.82 GBP).
