Angry villagers trampled on a Burmese dictator's photos as they staged a rally on his birthday.

Yinmar Pin residents stomped on printed portraits of army general Min Aung Hlaing during a protest in the Sagaing region of Myanmar on July 3.

A similar demonstration was held in Yangon, the country's largest city, on the same day.

Min Aung Hlaing seized power in a military coup that deposed popular democratic icon Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021.

The Sagaing region is known to be a strong resistance enclave against military rule in northwestern Myanmar.

Fighting between the armed militias and the Burmese military has intensified amid the political turmoil in Myanmar caused by the ousting of former leader Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021.

Around the country, thousands of civilians are said to have been murdered during military crackdowns on protests. Nobel Peace Prize Laurette Aung San Suu Kyi was kidnapped and has been held in custody on 'politically motivated' charges.
