This is the moment coast guards battled to pull a stranded ship crew's rescue boat against choppy waters in the Philippines.

Officers received a distressed signal from cargo ship LCT Aviva after it ran aground upon being pushed by strong winds and huge waves in Masinloc, Zambales province on July 3.

The rescuers tied a life raft from the boat to the beach where they ferried 22 crew while two were initially missing and later found that day.

No one was reported hurt and the crew were taken to the local health centre were they were given a health check.

The Philippine Coast Guard said in a statement: ‘Based on the investigation, the vessel, with 24 crew members on board, encountered strong winds and big waves, causing it to run aground.

‘The joint search and rescue (SAR) team, composed of PCG and Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel, used a rope connected to a life raft to rescue the crew onboard the distressed vessel.'

Officers also inspected the ship after the rescue operation and found no trace of oil spill.

The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November.

Typhoon Chaba also hit China this week causing flooding and choppy seas.
