This is the tragic moment a head-on boat crash on a canal killed one person and injured two passengers.

The motorised long-tailed boat was speeding along the water with its engine revving loudly as it accelerated toward a corner in Samut Prakan province, Thailand on July 3. However, while going round the bend it slammed directly into another boat plying the canal.

Boat pilot Prasit Na-dham, 32, was killed at the scene while two others were injured. The captain reportedly suffered a severe head injury, and burn wounds from the boat's engine.

Onlooker Jetsadakorn Sritachan who filmed the moment of the collision said: 'My friends and I were relaxing at the waterfront pavilion at the time. Suddenly, I heard the long-tailed boat roaring from a distance. I grabbed my phone to record it as it sailed past us, but ended up recording the accident.'

Residents in the area jumped into the water to rescue the victims that had sunk under the surface.

Sarawut Thongnon, one of those who jumped into the water, said: 'When I heard someone saying that the boats crashed, I ran out of my house and found that there were people injured and someone was drowning.

'I then dived into the water to search and later found the body floating near the boat's engine.'

Police from the Bang Bo district station arrived at the crash site after the victims had been found and rushed to the hospital.

They took photos of the area and obtained footage of the accident as evidence. Officers said they are also collecting more testimonies from witnesses.

Prasit's body has been sent to the forensic laboratory at Rama Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
