Patikul, Sulu is a no-go area for tourists because for almost two decades of conflict, militant unrest, kidnapping and beheading by the terror group Abu Sayyaf.

After the joint efforts of the military, local government units and the strong implementation of the anti-terror law which was enacted during Pres. Rodrigo Duterte's term, Sulu now is relatively peace and slowly eradicating the lawless elements in the province which cause the notorious label of Sulu as 'kidnapping and beheading capital of the Philippines.'

Now, Sulu in the southwestern Philippines is pinning its hopes on visitors returning as the scenic island province finally enjoys a return to peace.

One of the places the newly tourism office of Patikul is promoting is trekking of the then dangerous Bud Patikul which is one of the hideouts of ASG.

Capt. Lorefel O. Judaya of the Special Forces of Philippine army says, 'Patikul is we recommend it this area as cleared from any threats right now. Then here in the summit of Bud Patikul we assigned personnel to secure the tourist who will visit this place while other troops will secure the foot of the hills by conducting other military operations to ensure the safety of the visitors/tourists.'

Bud Patikul is 235 meters above sea level (masl) and on it's summit a stunning rock formation with the breathtaking view of Jolo and its beautiful beaches. A bird's nest and heart-shaped structure was built on the summit to lure people that the place is instagrammable or social media out friendly.
