A large number of protesters were seen breaking barriers and climbing on each other to get inside the presidential palace in western Sri Lanka.

The incident took place near the President's place in the Colombo district on July 9.

Visuals showed a large crowd on the road running from one place to another. They were seen climbing on each other to cross the barricade.

There was a large police force wearing helmets, masks, holding shields and sticks. They were trying to stop the angry crowd with the help of tear gas, sticks, etc.

According to reports, the police reportedly fired shots in the air but it wasn't enough to stop this massive wave of angry protestors. A report claims that president Gotabaya Rajapaksa was removed from this official residence on Friday, for his safety.

The island nation in southern Asia is going through one of the worst phases of economic crisis.
