An elderly woman used a wooden stick to save her grandson from an electric shock in eastern China.

CCTV footage filmed in the city of Xuzhou in Jiangsu Province on July 10 shows a boy running upstairs suddenly getting an electric shock after touching the handrail on the side of the staircase.

After another boy spotted the incident, he ran to ask help from the boy's grandmother.

The elderly woman then used a wooden stick to separate the boy with the handrail.

After the boy was saved, he was then sent to hospital.

The boy's mother Ms Li told Jiangsu Television, the incident was caused by the ageing circuit.

Li said they have already changed the circuit as well as installed a safety switch.

Fortunately, the boy was alright now.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
