Fuel tanker ship catches fire next to town on river in Myanmar
A fuel tanker ship caught fire next to a town on a river in Myanmar.
Footage shows the vessel burning up at the Chindwin River port in Monywa township at 9:00 am local time on July 10. A massive black plume of smoke rose up as the blaze reportedly razed more than 1,000 barrels of fuel onboard.
The military council fire brigade tried to extinguish the flames, but failed due to its massive size until the ship floated further away from the river banks.
Local media said the fire was finally put out at around 11:00 pm following heavy rains in the area.
Residents said the fuel tanker and its cargo allegedly belonged to the military council. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
