Hungry wild elephant wanders through park ranger's garden at night in Thailand
A hungry wild elephant wandered through a park ranger's garden at night in Thailand.
The male jumbo named Phi Deiyw was spotted ambling inside the compound while searching for food in Khao Yai National Park, Nakhon Ratchasima province on July 5.
He rummaged the trash bins for food and pulled branches from trees to nibble on the leaves but did not leave damage on the property.
The elephant stayed nearby and slept through the night before leaving in the morning before sunrise.
Park ranger Attiwat said: ‘Phi Deiyw is a big elephant, male, and isn't aggressive. He does as we tell him to so we let him hang around.'
There are an estimated 4,000 elephants in Thailand. About half of these live in captivity in animal camps, zoos, and sanctuaries while the remainder are found roaming national wildlife parks.
