A cat was rescued after it fell and was trapped in a well in a resident's house in Indonesia.

The house owner asked for help from the Indonesian Red Cross animal rescue team.

Musawir Munawir, 70, the house owner, said his neighbor's cat fell into the 42 ft deep well in the middle of the night.

The male ginger cat is thought to have been chasing a mouse and then slipped and fell into a well.

"Luckily it's the dry season, otherwise the cat would drown as the well is full of water in the rainy season," Munawir said.

His old age prevented Munawir from going into the well to help. The cat was seen climbing into the hole in the wall of the well and hanging in there.

In the morning Munawir asked for help from animal rescuers. Officers managed to save the cat by descending into the well.

Officers put the cat in a sack, then brought it to the surface of the well.

“The cat looks like it's been waiting for help. He didn't fight back when grabbed from where he was standing on the wall of the well,” Gusti Rama, PMI volunteer said.

According to Rama, the cat allegedly drank too much water so that his stomach bulged. The officer advised the owner of the house to close the well so that the same incident does not happen again.

Footage filmed in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra province on July 11.
