Fire Brigade crews and a special High Volume Pump (HVP) were deployed to the Sheppey Crossing in Kent this afternoon (July 13) to help try and resolve the Isle of Sheppey's water crisis following a burst main and further leaks, cutting off thousands of homes on the island.

An extra long fire hose was seen being run across the Sheppey Way, causing tailbacks to Iwade as island residents remain without mains water nearly two days after a serious problem was first identified, prompting the crisis to now be classified as a major incident.

A digger and water tankers were also seen in a nearby field believed to be the source of one of the leaks, as the UK faces a dangerous heatwave.
