Youth protesters marched against the Burmese army's military rule in Myanmar's Sagaing region on Tuesday.

Members of the resistance group known as 'Shwe Nwe Thwe' took to the streets to voice their dissent against the iron-handed junta regime on July 12.

Demonstrators across Sagaing, a strong resistance enclave in northwestern Myanmar, held up red flags and a banner that proclaimed: 'Be loyal to all the fallen heroes that sacrificed their lives for the country.'

Joining their ranks were children and teenagers making the iconic three-fingered salute - a gesture of resistance which activists have adopted from the movie franchise 'The Hunger Games.'

The Shwe Nwe Thwe group is composed mostly of youths from various villages, including the war-torn Yinmar Pin township.

The struggle between armed militias and the Burmese military has intensified amid the political turmoil in Myanmar caused by the ousting of former leader Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021.

Around the country, thousands of civilians are said to have been killed during military crackdowns on protests.
