Panicked residents splashed buckets of water to put out a fire that burst in a cafe's kitchen.

The shop owner broke a bottle of lubricating oil and was picking up the shards of glass when the scary inferno erupted and spread towards him in Roi Et province, Thailand, on July 10.

CCTV footage shows the owner quickly jumping away and splashing a bucket of drinking water into the blaze.

His father, who was seen slipping from the swamped floor, helped him put out the fire.

The shop owner's son Narawut Natsrita said: ‘My father was going to oil the lawnmower. He broke the glass while he was getting food.

‘The oil then flowed towards the stove and the fire started. Our neighbours were screaming and shouting for help.'

No one was hurt in the incident while the kitchen had minor damage from the fire.
