A stray dog was given treatment after being found with a fishhook piercing its mouth.

The hapless pooch was spotted by villagers in Ang Thong province, Thailand roaming around while its mouth was skewered by the sharp metal object on July 7.

Since the dog proved too elusive for rescuers to catch out in the open, they decided to lure it to the village chief's office using food. The compound was also surrounded by fencing, facilitating the stray's capture.

While the pooch was distracted wolfing down its meal, they then tied its legs to prevent it from running away.

Footage shows the rescuers using a pair of pliers to remove the fishhook lodged in the stray's mouth.

Surprisingly, the dog remained docile, letting out an occasional whimper as it lay in an officer's arms during the operation, which took about an hour to finish.

Village council leader Theppitak Amkid said: ‘I believe the dog might have eaten some food with the fishhook embedded inside it. Its life may have been in danger if we didn't help it.'
