Six elephants trapped in a pond in Assam were rescued and released
in northern India.

The footage filmed on July 16 shows the animals struggling in a pond, repeatedly trying to get out of the water.

Excavators were there used to dig out an escape route and the elephants can later be seen making their way back into the forest.

Six elephants were seen trapped in a pond in northeastern India's Assam.

The incident took place at Chaibari near Lakhipur in the Goalpara district on July 16.

Visuals showed a group of elephants present inside a pond trying to escape from the place. They were seen getting in and out of the water, struggling to free themselves.

Later, a group of officials were seen at the spot along with an excavator.

They were evacuated after digging out an escape route with the help of excavator.

Speaking to Newslions, Jitendra Kumar, District Forest Officer said that after getting the information about the incident Dhruv Dutta, Range Forest Officer Lakhipur reached the spot along with an excavator to create a way for the pachyderms to come out. The elephants came out safely from the pond and entered the forest area.
