Helicopter crashes during emergency landing after tangling with trees in Thailand
A helicopter crashed during an emergency landing after tangling with rubber trees in Thailand, leaving seven people injured.
The Black Hawk helicopter departed from Senanarong military camp in Songkhla province on the way to Sirindhorn camp when they reportedly experienced engine problems on July 15.
A Thai Army chief identified as Lieutenant General Kriengkrai Srirak, two pilots, two technicians, a soldier, and a photographer was on board when the Black Hawk aimed for an emergency landing at a rubber plantation in Thepa district but was caught in the trees.
Six of them were immediately taken to Thepha Hospital, while a soldier had to be extracted by rescuers after being trapped inside.
Major General Chalermphorn Khamkhaew said: ‘After the incident, the officers had closed the area and positioned the force to ensure the safety around the area.'
The loud bang was heard by locals who called the rescuers for help. All seven injured are in stable condition and will be transferred to Songklanagarind Hospital.
After the initial inspection, the officers found that the helicopter had an engine failure and lost balance due to the trees. The debris was collected from the crash site for further inspection.
The Black Hawk UH-60 manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft is a medium-lift military helicopter with both pilot seats protected with heavy armour that can withstand hits from guns with up to 23mm shells.
