Brave student activists took to the streets to protest against the military-supervised education system in Myanmar.

The trio of protesters, reportedly members of the Union of Secondary School Students, marched in Myitkyina Township in Kachin State on July 15 to decry the military dictatorship and what they called 'slavery education.'

They also raised a banner that read: 'Escape from fear and defeat the dictatorship.'

The Burmese military government has reopened public schools on June 1, but some teachers opposed to the coup have refused to return in protest. The junta has threatened them with dismissal.

The struggle between armed militias and the Burmese military has intensified amid the political turmoil in Myanmar caused by the ousting of former leader Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021.

Around the country, thousands of civilians are said to have been killed during military crackdowns on protests.
