Artist creates ICE CUBE earrings and necklace to keep cool
Christina Ashman, 33, who runs an alternative fashion and jewellery brand, decided to get creative with her ice cube trays as temperatures soared. Placing the metal pieces she uses to create jewellery for her business into water in an ice cube tray, then Christina popped them in the freezer on Saturday (16/7). Taking them out the following day (17/7), Christina was thrilled to see her experiment had worked and carefully put on her freezing cold accessories before venturing into the garden that afternoon. But, just 15 minutes later, her icy jewellery had already melted and dropped off in the 33°C sunshine, Still, Christina says she was kept delightfully cool from the melting water - even if for only a brief moment of release from the heat. The artist, who lives in Brislington, Bristol, said: "I usually make jewellery with polymer clay, but it needs to be oven baked and I really didn’t want to turn the oven on in this heat. "I thought I’d do the opposite and make jewellery in the freezer instead! "I don’t really like being too hot, so I thought some real ice cubes might keep me cool for a while. "I left the ice cubes to set in the freezer overnight with the jump rings suspended in the water."
