Watch as a fierce fire tears through a home in a Reading suburb.

The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Caversham Road, Wokingham Road, Ascot, Crowthorne, Whitley Wood and Theale were sent to the scene alongside four officers and an aerial ladder platform attended the major house fire in Selsdon Avenue, Woodley, on Tuesday (July 19) following reports shortly before 2:30pm of a house on fire spreading to the roof.

The fire has destroyed the house following the incident and it is believed that no one was injured in the fire.

6 Appliances and crews from Caversham Road , Wokingham Road , Theale , Whitley Wood , Ascot and Crowthorne supported by 5 RBFRS officers and an aerial appliance from the Hampshire & IOW Fire and Rescue Service have attended a major house fire in Selsdon Avenue , Woodley today following reports shortly before 2:30PM of a house on fire spreading to the roof.

The fire has destroyed the house following the incident and it is belived that no one was injured in the fire.

This comes after an unprecedented heatwave in the United Kingdom which has caused Major Incidents to be declared throughout the country by fire services attempting to cope with major blazes throughout the day.

Crews fought defensively using multiple main jets and hose reels to contain the fire and prevent it spreading to further properties. Crews were on scene for roughly 5 hours.

A statement from RBFRS states

At 2:21pm on Tuesday, 19 July, we received reports of a fire on Selsdon Avenue in Woodley.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Caversham Road, Wokingham Road, Ascot, Crowthorne, Whitley Wood and Theale were sent to the scene alongside four officers and an aerial ladder platform.

Upon arrival, crews found a domestic fire involving two properties. Two people were evacuated from the buildings and have been placed in the care of South Central Ambulance Service.

Firefighters remain at the scene of the incident. Further updates will be released in due course.
