The western race of the Splendid Fairywren (Malurus splendens splendens) is reasonably common and is often seen foraging in family groups. When in breeding condition, male Splendid Fairywrens are brilliant cobalt blue with pale blue ear tufts. This mixed sex group of Splendid Fairywrens are in eclipse (non-breeding) plumage and was hunting on mown lawn and along the edge of Loch McNess before bathing in a small puddle.
