A magnitude 6.4 earthquake centred in Myanmar rocked neighbouring provinces in Thailand.

Footage shows the strong tremors shaking a security camera in Chiang Rai province's Chiang Saen district just past midnight on Friday July 22.

The Earthquake Observation Division of the Thai Meteorological Department placed the epicentre some 87 kilometres northeast of Mae Sai district in Chiang Rai province.

Locals in Phayao and Chiang Mai provinces also reported feeling the earthquake and the subsequent milder aftershocks.

The United States Geological Survey said the earthquake struck 53 kilometres south of Keng Tung town in Shan State, Myanmar near its border with Thailand. It was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometres at 17:07 UTC.

There have been no reports of injuries, casualties, or property damage so far.
