A deer that fell into a 25-foot-deep well while being chased by dogs was rescued by a team in Chhattisgarh, central India.

The incident happened in Korkoma on July 25 and footage shows the moment the animal was hoisted out of the deep pit.

Residents called the local forest department after spotting the deer at the bottom of the well.

Ropes were used to lift the animal out of the well.

A deer was chased by dogs before it fell into a 25-feet deep well in central India's Chhattisgarh.

The incident happened in the Korkoma village of Korba district on July 25.

Visuals showed the deer stranded inside the well which was in the courtyard of a farmer's house. When the villagers got to know about this, they immediately informed the Korba forest department, who then rushed to rescue the animal.

Rescuers were seen inside the well tying the deer's hands and feet with ropes which was used to pull the animal out of the well.

Upon being taken out after hours of effort, the deer was given food to eat and its injuries, which are believed to have happened as a result of an attack by the dogs, were also treated. It was also learnt that with the well being a dry one, the deer sustained injuries on its hooves and was unable to walk as a result of that. The animal had originally lost its path after wandering from the forest and was chased by dogs before falling into the well.

The deer has been referred for further treatment.
