Terrifying footage captured the moment an aggressive monkey mounted a relentless attack on a 2-year-old girl, trying to drag her away and not giving up even when her parents arrived.

The chilling scene played out in video captured on July 21 by a home camera in Moscow, Russia.

The girl was standing outside a home with other children when a mangabey monkey ran up to the girl and tried to tear her away.

The girl appeared to hang on to a ladder next to an outdoor pool as the monkey clung tightly to her.

Soon the girl's mother appeared but even then the beast would not give up, gripping the girl tightly and attacking the mum too.

The girl's father then arrived, to little avail as the simian continued its relentless attack and he appeared to cower in fear, at one point aimlessly waving his feet at the animal.

Fortunately, the child's brave mother was eventually able to get away from the monkey and save her daughter, who was taken to hospital and put in intensive care before undergoing surgery the next day.

The monkey had escaped from a private zoo next door when, during relocation, she was placed in another enclosure from which she was able to get out. The owners of the zoo are a lawyer named Leonid Rosenblum and his wife Nadezhda.

Arriving at the scene zoo staff spotted the primate sitting calmly in a tree and was eventually caught.

The girl was walking in the courtyard of a private house with other guys. At some point, a monkey ran into the children. She clung to the two-year-old baby so that her parents could hardly pull her away. After the attack, the child was taken to intensive care, and the next day she underwent surgery.

The monkey lived in a private zoo next door and ran away during the relocation - she was placed in another enclosure, from which she was able to get out. Immediately after the incident, the nursery staff caught the animal, what will be done with it further is still unknown.
