The execution of four political activists in Myanmar sparked protests around the world this week.

Footage shows the Human Rights Organisation of Nepal staging a protest at the United Nations House in Kathmandu on Tuesday, July 26.

The protesters held banners that say: 'We condemn the execution of democratic leaders,' 'End army rule in Myanmar, bring democracy back,' and 'Nepal doesn't accept capital punishment.'

Myanmar's military junta on Monday announced that it had executed four anti-coup activists, namely Ko Jimmy, Phyo Zeyar Thaw, Hla Myo Aung and Aung Thura Zaw.

A junta spokesperson said the executions were carried out on Saturday. It was Myanmar's first use of capital punishment since the late 1980s. Burmese people were outraged at the executions, which triggered protests in Myanmar, Thailand, London, Japan, Nepal and other countries.

The country has suffered ongoing unrest and uprisings from rebel groups following the removal of well-liked leader Aung San Suu Kyi in a military coup last February. Soldiers responded with barbaric force to protests.

Britain has imposed financial sanctions on Myanmar and lists a number of individuals who are targeted for asset seizures.
