Hungry monkeys begged tourists for food in a Burmese national park.

Footage shows the primates running behind a car as tourists throw them some nuts in Yangon's Hlawga National Park on July 23.

Some of the desperate monkeys were seen fighting for the morsels as the car was moving away.

The creatures followed the family's truck until it stopped and they were fed with banana, potato, and some nuts.

Tourist Nan Cho Zin said: ‘We regularly visit the national park to feed the animals. They saw that our truck had sacks of food so they followed us around.'

She added that her aunt asked the truck to stop so they could feed the monkeys properly.

Nan said: ‘My aunty asked us to stop the car upon seeing the hungry monkeys. They could be hurt so we pulled over to feed them properly.'

Monkeys in the Indochina region were left starving as tourists dwindled following the pandemic.

Experts believe that the monkeys have been dependent on visiting tourists who fed them with starchy snacks and sugary drinks. Their shift in diet encouraged them to mate and produce more offspring.
