Hillfields Library, Hillfields, Bristols, UK. 28th July 2022. Protesters clash outside Hillfields Library in Bristol as a drag queen makes an appearance where she read stories to children. As well as a group protesting against the event, supporters have also arrived to show support for Aida. One group of demonstrators claims the event, which promotes inclusivity, is "sexualising children" while the second group who are supporting Aida are saying drag is art. Police were on the scene early this morning, and had to restrain several protesters with one arrest made. The national tour of Drag Queen Story Hour UK came to Bristol libraries today, following controversy in Reading earlier this week. Attending six libraries across two days in the city (July 28/29), it will see the Storytime Drag Queen, Aida H Dee, reading stories with the aim of 'engaging children's creativity and love for reading by giving them a brand-new, positive experience, one page at a time, all the while learning and communicating'.
