A body modification fanatic has shared insight into her addiction, from painful chest implants to gum tattoos, revealing she's often called a "demon".

Ahnvala, 34, from the US, is a self-proclaimed tattoo and body modification fanatic – getting her first piece of ink in 2009.

Since, she's spent thousands on her controversial addiction, with various procedures such as splitting her tongue and multiple implants across her arms and chest.

Now, she claims that near enough her entire body is covered in ink – including her tongue and gums, which caused her difficulty breathing.

Despite loving her look, she's received comments from people who have called her a "demon" and sometimes, she's harassed due to her appearance.

"Sometimes [I get] a fair bit of sexual harassment, and I've been called a demon," Ahanvala told Jam Press.

"I also get complimented, sometimes on specific aspects of what I have or my overall image.

"I think my favourite so far has been a small child asking their mother if I'm a superhero after seeing me – just cute.

"I got a matching tattoo with my partner and I don't regret it, even though it was my first cover-up, because it got me started.

"In 2014, I got my tongue split and subdermal implants, and I've even done the soles of my feet – there are just tiny spaces left without tattoos now.

"The eight implants were done in two sessions, but the two large chest implants were done in one.

"They take a couple of weeks to heal after each session, then the sutures can be removed – healing is the most intense part."

For Ahnvala, her most painful modification were her chest implants as she recalls losing a lot of blood, where they had to remove clots from the suture sites.

Despite being healed now, she believes that pain and healing is part of the transformative process and says most of this rests in your mind set.

She said: "I think a lot of [healing] rests in the ability to turn your mind, as well as allowing yourself time and space to heal.

"For me, slowing down to heal isn't always easy.

"Both [my tongue and gums] are tattooed and this was done fairly quickly by injection.

"Though the first few hours after, there was a lot of swelling and it was hard to breathe or swallow.

"My tongue was done in two sessions, but I think that was definitely better than one given the swelling."

As she spends a lot of her time traveling, she hasn't been focused on finding a suitable partner – but is interested in the right person.

She added: "I've lived a lot of my life alone, so it hasn't been my focus – but I'm open to it, only for the right person.

"Someone who likes my modifications and isn't trying to see past them.

"My body and vision keeps evolving as I am inspired and alter my path."
