Hairdresser uses bamboo kitchen utensils with some very impressive results
A creative hairdresser uses traditional bamboo cooking instruments to style people's hair.
Somporn Promyanon was fed up spending vast sums on imported equipment and products for her shop in Phatthalung province, southern Thailand.
She decided to improvise with traditional items and began using banana leaves for hair coloring and woven bamboo trays to bleach hair for highlights in her beauty salon. Other items include fishing nets and large wooden saucers used for drying meat under the sun.
The resulting treatments amused customers but they have proven a success and her shop is now fully-booked for weeks in advance.
Somporn said: 'I saw how every hairdresser here would spend so much on Western-produced hair equipment so I came up with the idea of using local products to help out small businesses and reduce costs.
'What's amazing is that the end product looks exactly the like me using the usual equipment. If I start using traditional equipment, I will also be taking care of the environment by not using plastic.'
'I like working so I believe that people will always find a way to do the things they love regardless of how much money they have.'
Somporn records videos of her unorthodox hair sessions which she uploads to TikTok. She has now gained a large online following who have been impressed with her unique methods.
