A male passenger was nabbed by officials at an airport in northern India's New Delhi for concealing foreign cash worth 75,762 US dollars (60 lakh rupees).

The incident took place at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, in the national capital, on July 31.

Visuals showed officials taking out a packet from the cavity of a handbag and using a pair of scissors to cut the envelope, thus revealing the currency notes.

According to reports, the man was travelling to Dubai.

He has been identified as Paramjeet Singh.

Singh was sent for checking based on suspicion. The X-ray scan showed some currency hidden in the side layer of his bag.

After he cleared the check-in process and immigration formalities, Singh was intercepted by CISF surveillance and intelligence staff, reports said.

The check yielded foreign currency: 2,62,500 Saudi Riyal and 5,000 US dollars.

He had hidden them in the "side false layer of his handbag" to avoid detection.

When questioned, Singh failed to produce valid documents for carrying such an amount of foreign currency, an official said.

Both the male passenger and the cash were handed over to Customs officials for further action.
