Gaza engineering student designs a suitcase-sized mobile dental clinic
A 23-year-old engineering and medical equipment student from the southern Gaza city of Rafah has designed a mobile dental clinic that fits into a suitcase.
Abdullah Al-Baba overcame difficulties sourcing parts -- a result of severe Israeli import restrictions that make life difficult for many in Gaza -- to create the ultra-compact clinic.
Video shot on 2 August shows his interesting invention, that uses a refrigerator engine as an air pump and a repurposed fire extinguisher cylinder to store air.
Al-Baba says his innovation can help extend dental care to the elderly and patients in remote areas who cannot reach the 20 dental clinics run by UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) in Gaza.
The young man hopes that his project will attract investor support and help improve dental care throughout Gaza.
