A TikTok doctor has finally answered one of the biggest questions following the UK's intense heatwave: why does hot weather feel hotter in Britain than abroad?

Dr Karan Rajan has 4.9 million followers on TikTok (@dr.karanr) and in one of his latest videos, the doctor shares why Brits suffer harder with high temperatures at home than on holiday.

The UK can be very humid, meaning sweat doesn't evaporate as quickly and the human body then struggles to cool down, which is why we struggle with "tropical nights".

Buildings in Britain also weren't designed for hot weather.

But another key part of the reason, according to Dr Rajan? Well, Brits just "like to complain".

"Why does the heat in the UK feel even hotter than when you're abroad?," he says in the clip.

"30 degrees in the UK feels like 50 somewhere else and it feels like you're melting.

"The UK can get pretty humid which means that sweat doesn't evaporate as quickly meaning the human body finds it harder to keep cool and we get these hot tropical nights where the temperature doesn't dip so we actually don't get a break from the heat.

"Also because it's cold most of the year, the buildings in the UK are designed to keep heat in compared to hotter countries and the average person in the UK does not have air-con and because Brits like to complain about everything."

Dr Karan's explanation racked up more than 5 million views and 575,000 likes on Tiktok.
