Ukraine Customs destroys mountain of seized counterfeit Apple products in Kyiv
Ukraine Customs destroyed 2,500 thousand units of counterfeit Apple products by throwing it into a furnace on Wednesday 3 August.
The goods included headphones, power adapters and other accessories.
It was imported to Ukraine in violation of Apple's legally protected intellectual property rights.
It was reported that most of these goods were imported into Ukraine in small batches by international express shipments.
Video supplied by Ukraine's Custom service, showed workers throwing the goods into a furnace whose temperature reaches 546C (1,114F).
It is not clear whether there is any particular significance to the burning, or the filming of it, beyond simply destroying fake goods. But one condition of Ukraine having closer economic ties with, or even joining, the EU is that it deals with widespread corruption and uneven enforcement of regulations.
