An unique 'court of serpents' unravelled in central India's Madhya Pradesh where multiple people were seen performing 'bizarre' gestures.

These incidents were reported to have taken place in the Raisen district on August 2.

Visuals showed mass gathering at an area with priests sitting in front of a temple. What stood out was the bizarre gestures performed by women in this gathering. While one was on the ground, another woman was seen hissing and crawling. A third woman was seen performing weird gestures and dancing her way through a crowd before falling on the ground.

A woman was seen hissing continuously while making a snake's hood-like gesture with her hands. It was later learnt that these women were said to have been possessed by the snake spirits and hence, these gestures.

The serpent spirits were said to invade the body of those who have been troubled by snakes and upon being possessed, these people revealed reasons for being bitten by the reptiles.

This ceremony is held every year during the festival of 'Nagpanchami' and despite heavy rainfall in the state, people come from several districts to participate in this festival.
